Justice CB Barowalia to be new Lokayukta of HP

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh High Court Judge Chander Bhushan Barowalia on Friday appointed as new Lokayukta of Himachal Pradesh.
A notification approved by Himachal Pradesh Rajbhavan here today said that in in exercise of the powers by the Himachal Pradesh Lokayukta Act, 2014, the Governor, Himachal Pradesh approved the appointment of Justice CB Barowalia as Lokayukta in Himachal Pradesh.
He would take oath of office only after his resignation is accepted.
It is worthwhile to mention here that no High court judge prior to this was ever elevated as Himachal Pradesh Lokayukta.
Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha recently amended the HP Lokayukta Act to make such provision or to elevate High court judge to this constitutional berth.
Starting his career as additional session judge justice Barowalia was elevated to judge of Himachal Pradesh. He was supposed to retire from Himachal Pradesh High on March 14, 2023. The post of Lokayukta was laying vacant for a long time in Himachal Pradesh. (UNI)
