Santoor maestro Bhajan Sopori passes away

New Delhi: Renowned Santoor maestro and music composer Bhajan Sopori passed away at a private hospital in Gurugram on Thursday.
“My father was detected with colon cancer in June last year. From the past three weeks his condition started deteriorating. Doctors did whatever options were possible. He passed away at 3.30 pm,” son Abhay Sopori told media.
“We are taking the body to our home in Lodhi Colony where people would be allowed to pay tributes,” he said.
“His cremation will be held in Delhi on Friday evening,” Abhay added. He, however, said the crematorium is not decided yet.
Sopori gave his first public performance in 1953, at the age of five. He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1992 and Padma Shri in 2004.(UNI)
