Kolkata, May 6: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday visited BCCI President Sourav Ganguly’s residence in the city’s Behala area and was treated to a sumptuous dinner by the former Indian cricket captain. Ganguly’s mother and wife oversaw the arrangements. Ganguly’s brother and Cricket Association of Bengal secretary Snehashish Ganguly, as also BJP leaders Amit Malviya, Suvendu Adhikari, Swapan Dasgupta and Sukanta Majumder were seen having dinner together at a round table. The menu was purely Bengali cuisine sans meat, fish and egg as Shah is a vegetarian. Shah, who arrived in the city on Thursday morning and had hectic schedules visiting the border areas of south and north Bengal and addressing the BSF jawans, wanted to pay a courtesy call to the BCCI chief at the end of his official schedule, a BJP source said. A large number of media personnel had gathered outside Ganguly’s residence since it was known that Home Minister Shah would visit the house. It may be mentioned that the Union Minister’s son, Jay Shah, is the former cricketer’s colleague as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which Ganguly is heading now. Amit Shah arrived at Ganguly’s home at Sir Biren Roy Road in a white SUV surrounded by bodyguards. Ganguly and his wife Dona greeted Shah with a bouquet of flowers and then introduced him to the members of the family. Ganguly, earlier in the day, told reporters that the visit was purely a courtesy call since they have known each other since 2008. (UNI)
