Kolkata, April 13: West Bengal Governor Jagdip Dhankhar on Wednesday urged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for interaction during the day in view of “disturbing and unprecedented worrisome scenario in the precincts of Calcutta High Court and also the recent spate of heinous crime against women and continual deteriorating law and order in the State,” a Raj Bhavan tweet said. ” You would agree that in a system governed by constitution and rule of law, denial of access to justice and obstruction in the functioning of the Court’s sound (like) the death knell of democracy,” the Governor emphasized. The advocates with allegiance to state ruling Trinamool Congress on Wednesday protested against Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay on the Calcutta High court premises, even as some lawyers sat on a dharna and blocked people from entering the court of Justice Gangopadhyay. There had been heated arguments between two groups of lawyers in the Calcutta High Court. While some wanted to boycott Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay’s bench, others were opposing it. Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay who has ordered a CBI probe into the School Service Commission (SSC) alleged recruitment irregularities and had sought the intervention of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and Calcutta high court chief justice as his orders stayed by the division bench number of occasions in the said case. Dhankhar also summoned state chief secretary Hari Krishna Dwivedi Chief Secretary and the DGP to brief him by 4 PM about the Hanskhali gang rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in Nadia district. ” Chief secretary and DGP WB Police have been called upon to brief Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar latest by 4 PM on April 13 on the shameful rape and death case #Hanskhali of 14-year-old minor girl and incidents of attacks on Ram Navami religious processions at Howrah.” (UNI)
