Srinagar, April 4: At least half a dozen houseboats were gutted on Monday in a massive fire that broke out in Nigeen Lake in Srinagar causing damage to the property worth crores, officials said. Fire and Emergency services said that fire broke out in a houseboat and engulfed adjacent houseboats in a row. Initially local people and police launched a firefighting operation but the leaping flames damaged the houseboats. Six fire tenders were rushed to spot from the nearby fire stations to douse the fire that broke out early morning, around 2.27 am. There were no immediate reports of any injury to anyone in the incident. The fire tenders are still on the job, Fire and Emergency Services said.
Nigeen Lake is a smaller lake near Dal Lake, connected through a narrow strait, has a few tourist activities in it. (UNI)
