Chandigarh: A fresh controversy has erupted in Haryana’s political corridors as eight ruling party MLAs raised serious concerns about the behavior of senior bureaucrats in the state. The legislators alleged that officers have become “uncontrollable,” ignore their phone calls, do not invite them to official programs, and are deliberately disrespecting elected representatives.

The issue came to light during a recent internal meeting, where the MLAs openly expressed their frustration. They claimed that despite being public representatives, they are being sidelined in administrative affairs and not given due protocol.

One of the MLAs reportedly said, “We are not even informed about government functions in our own constituencies. Officers don’t respond to our calls or messages. This is not just negligence, it’s outright disrespect.”

Taking note of the discontent, senior BJP leader and Cabinet Minister Anil Vij came out in support of the legislators. He stated, “In the democratic system, an elected MLA’s protocol comes above that of the Chief Secretary. Officers must understand that disrespecting MLAs is equal to disrespecting the public that elected them.”

Vij added that necessary directions would be given to ensure that officers follow proper protocol and maintain communication with public representatives. He emphasized that the government machinery cannot function smoothly if MLAs and officials do not coordinate.

Political analysts believe that the repeated tussles between the bureaucracy and the political leadership in Haryana could impact governance and decision-making. In the past too, similar complaints have surfaced, but this time the collective voice of eight MLAs has intensified the matter.

Some MLAs have also hinted that if this issue isn’t addressed soon, they may take up the matter with the Chief Minister or raise it during the upcoming Assembly session.

Meanwhile, the state’s bureaucratic officials have refrained from making any public comments. However, sources indicate that discussions may soon be held to smoothen the working relationship between the administrative and legislative branches.

The incident highlights the growing gap between the executive and the elected, something that, if unresolved, could cause further strain in governance at the grassroots level.
