Maha Congress demands for SC-led probe into Pegasus row

Mumbai, Jul 22 (UNI) The Maharashtra unit of the Congress party on Thursday demanded a probe into Pegasus spyware case under the Supreme Court’s supervision.
A delegation of Congress leaders, led by the MPCC president Nana Patole, met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and submitted a memorandum of the demand to him.
Before submitting the memorandum to the Governor, the Congress leaders held a protest in front of Raj Bhavan against the BJP-led central government.
The hacking of people’s phones and listening to their conversations was an attack on the citizens’ right to privacy, he said.
With this act, the (Narendra) Modi government at the Centre had murdered democracy and it was their role to save democracy in the country, Mr Patole asserted.
Using this phone hacking method, the Modi government overthrew the Congress-JDS government in Karnataka and the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh, he reminisced.
“During the previous Devendra Fadnavis government in Maharashtra in 2016-17, my and some other people’s phones were tapped,” he said and noted that the issue was also raised in the state assembly.
The delegation comprised of Energy Minister Dr Nitin Raut, Fisheries Minister Aslam Sheikh, Animal Husbandry Minister Sunil Kedar, state working president Chandrakant Handore, Naseem Khan, Mumbai Congress president Bhai Jagtap, state vice president Hussain Dalwai, vice president Sanjay Rathore, former minister Baba Siddiqui, Amar Rajurkar among several others.
