76th session of UN General Assembly opens on Tuesday
Session likely to be stormy, with major world leaders slated to ponder over Afghanistan
United Nations, Sep 14 (UNI/Sputnik) The 76th crucial session of UN General Assembly was opened by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday. The session is likely to be very stormy with US withdrawal from Afghanistan transferring power to instability and threat of terrorism overtaking the region.
“It’s a pleasure to join you again for the opening of the 76th session of the General Assembly,” Guterres said speaking at the 193-member body.
The UN chief also welcomed the new President of the General Assembly, former Foreign Minister the Maldives, Abdulla Shahid.
