Mohali : In a significant ruling, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has upheld the conviction of a 74-year-old woman in an immigration fraud case dating back 24 years. The case revolves around the fraudulent activity carried out by the woman, Charanjit Kaur, who, along with her accomplice, duped two individuals out of a sum of 15 lakh rupees in 1999 by promising to send them to Canada. The case was registered in 2000, and after years of legal proceedings, the court delivered its verdict, confirming the woman’s role in the crime.

Charanjit Kaur and her accomplice had convinced the victims that they would assist them in migrating to Canada for a fee. However, after receiving the money, they failed to fulfill their promise, leading to a lengthy legal battle. The victims were left stranded, and the authorities initiated investigations. Despite the prolonged trial, Kaur’s guilt was established in the case, and the court did not show any leniency due to the severity of the crime.

The High Court’s ruling not only upholds the conviction but also sends a strong message about the consequences of such fraudulent activities. The court emphasized the need for strict measures to eradicate immigration frauds and similar offenses that exploit vulnerable individuals seeking better opportunities abroad.

In its judgment, the court made it clear that such crimes must be dealt with severely and cannot be allowed to persist, as they undermine public trust and cause immense harm to the victims. The case has drawn attention to the growing issue of immigration frauds in the country, highlighting the importance of safeguarding people from unscrupulous agents and scammers who prey on their hopes for a better future.

Charanjit Kaur’s case serves as a reminder that no matter how much time has passed, justice will ultimately prevail, and those guilty of such crimes must be held accountable. The court’s decision marks a significant step in addressing the rise in immigration-related frauds and ensuring that such offenses are eradicated from society.
