UP govt reviews mega projects including expressways, defence corridors and Jewar airport

Lucknow, Jul 6 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari on Tuesday reviewed the progress of Purvanchal, Bundelkhand, Ganga Expressways and Gorakhpur Link Expressway projects, Defense Corridor and Jewar International Airport.
He said that while expediting the construction work of Purvanchal Expressway, it should be completed by August 15, 2021 at any cost, so that it becomes accessible for the movement of people soon.
Presiding over the meeting of Project Monitoring Group, the chief secretary directed to complete the main carriageway of Bundelkhand Expressway by the month of December, 2021.
While expediting the work of Gorakhpur Link Expressway, instructions were given to complete this within the stipulated time period. He directed to carry forward the process of construction work by completing the land acquisition work for Ganga Expressway project in the month of July, 2021 itself.
The Chief Secretary said that new industrial units would be established along with various production units located in the areas covered by these four expressways and industrial activities would increase in the state. Along with the construction works of the expressway, he directed to develop public facilities like toilets, petrol pumps, restaurants etc. so that the general public would not be inconvenienced when these expressways are started. He said that along with construction work on all expressways, proper arrangement of signage and street lighting should also be ensured.
While making a presentation regarding the progress of all four expressways in the meeting, Chief Executive Officer and Additional Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPD) Avnish Kumar Awasthi informed that Purvanchal Expressway starts from Lucknow, and it will pass through Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur, whose length is about 341 km. Expressway is 6 lane wide (expandable to 8 lane) and structures are 8 lane width. Under this expressway, a total of 18 flyovers, 7 ROBs, 7 major bridges, 118 minor bridges, 13 interchanges, 271 underpasses and 503 culverts are being constructed at a fast pace and all the work is towards completion. .
Regarding Bundelkhand Expressway, he said that Chitrakoot, Banda, Mahoba, Hamirpur, Jalaun, Jaunpur, Auraiya and Etawah districts would be benefited by this project. Four railway overbridges, 14 major bridges, 6 toll plazas, 7 ramp plazas, 268 minor bridges, 18 flyovers and 214 underpasses are being constructed on the expressway. All the work under the project is going on at a fast pace and it will be completed within the stipulated time period. He informed that the construction of the main carriageway would be completed by the month of December, 2021.
Apart from this, Gorakhpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Sant Kabir Nagar and Azamgarh districts will be benefitted by Gorakhpur Link Expressway. Expressway is 4 lane wide (expandable up to 6 lane) and structures are being constructed of 6 lane width. In the construction of the expressway, 2 toll plazas, 3 ramp plazas, 7 flyovers, 16 vehicular underpasses, 50 light vehicular underpasses, 35 pedestrians, 7 long bridges, 27 minor bridges and 389 culverts will also be constructed. More than 96 percent land has been acquired and all types of constructions are being done very fast. The main carriageway will be operational by the month of March/April, 2022.
The work of land acquisition for the proposed 594 km long Ganga expressway starting from district Meerut to Prayagraj is going on a war footing and by the end of this month 90 percent of the land will be available, after which the process of construction will start.
It was informed in the review meeting that in the Defence Corridor, Aligarh node has been completed and all the plots have been allotted. Action is also being taken for acquisition of additional land in Aligarh. Allocation has also started in Kanpur and Jhansi nodes. Land is also being arranged in Lucknow node and the work of land acquisition is in progress.
In the review of the construction of Jewar International Airport, it was informed that by July 31, 2021, the entire land would be acquired and the process of construction would be taken forward.
