New Delhi/Ranchi, May 27 (UNI) Jharkhand Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon has demanded the centre to immediately release Rs 1561 crore as GST compensation for the year 2020-21.
Dr Oraon will on Friday participate in the meeting of the GST council which will be chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Apart from the issue of GST compensation the minister will also raise several

other issues.
He said that at the time of the formulation of the GST a provision was made to provide GST compensation to the states for a period of five years which is going to end on June 2022, however due to the pandemic the situation has worsened due to which the provisions of the GST compensation should be increased by another five years.
The Finance Minister said that on the previous occasion the Centre had given the compensation as part of loan but this time the state government will urge the Centre to provide the money as grants. He also demanded that GST on medicines required in treatment of Covid be reduced to zero percent so that the government through its own resources can provide medicines to the people.
