ED questioning Raut in Rs.1064 Cr land deal in Patra Chal involving his family members
Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate on Sunday detained Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut after nine-hour search and interrogation at his residence in connection with a money laundering case.
Raut was summoned for questioning by the ED in a money laundering case linked to the alleged irregularities in the re-development of ‘Patra Chawl’ and a transaction, involving his wife.
When ED officials came to ‘Maitri,’ residence of the Sena MP, Raut asked them the reason for coming home. He told them to come for investigation after the Monsoon session of Parliament.
The officers told Raut that since he was not cooperating with them, they had to come to his home for investigation.
Raut was detained by the ED officials from his house in Bhandup and taken to the ED Zonal office, where he is likely to be further questioned.
Earlier, Shiv Sainiks gathered outside Raut’s house, raising slogans against the ED and protesting the action against Raut.
On the other hand, a large police force has been deployed outside the ED office in Mumbai. Barricading has been done outside the office for security reasons.
As per information, the Central officials of ED from Delhi have arrived in Mumbai and will interrogate Raut at the ED office, situated at Ballard Pier in Mumbai.
Roads leading to the ED office have been closed to the public. Barricading has been done there also.
Raut told reporters before being detained that he was not afraid of the ED action. “I will never leave Shiv Sena, I am a true Shiv Sainik,” he added.
Talking about Arjun Khotkar, he said that “if you listen to his entire statement, he has said it clearly. I want to join the (Eknath) Shinde group as my family and I are in trouble. Till now we were saying that, now people are speaking clearly.” (UNI)
