Bengaluru, May 2: On the penultimate day of Khelo India University Games, Jain University’s Priya Mohan shocked Olympian Dutee Chand by defeating her in 200 meters race here on Monday. Dutee was running ahead of Priya in the first 100 meters, but Priya pushed hard at the bend to reduce her distance. After defeating the Olympian, Priya was not happy as she failed to break her own record due to rainy conditions. “I will travel to Europe to qualify for the senior world and try to improve my time in the race,” she stated. Priya had earlier won a gold medal in the All India Inter University Games this year. Putting aside her frustration for not breaking the record, the 19-year-old started the morning from where she left in the 200 meters. Priya also won a gold in the 400 meters by demonstrating extraordinary abilities, but was unhappy for not improving her performance. “I worked hard and I was in top form, but the weather ruined everything,” she said. “I was hoping to complete 400 meters in 51 seconds. This is my home track as well as a better track. I told all my friends about it, but well things don’t always work out that way,” she said. (UNI)
