FICCI, IDSA welcome notification of new rules for direct selling
New Delhi, Dec 28: The industry bodies on Tuesday welcomed the notification of new rules for direct selling industry.
In a statement, Vivek Katoch, Chair FICCI, Direct Selling Task Force and Director, Corporate Affairs (Asia), Oriflame India, said, “Direct Selling rules will not only protect the industry and consumers from pyramid and money circulation schemes but also provide legitimacy to direct selling business in the country. In coming time we can witness Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), latest technology and competitive products in the Indian market.”
Rajat Banerji, Chairman, Indian Direct Selling Association (IDSA), “We welcome the move to regulate the Direct Selling industry in India. The Consumer Protection (Direct Selling) Rules, 2021, notified today by the Centre, incorporates several demands of the industry and restricting E-Commerce platform and marketplace to sell any product or service without prior consent from the respective direct selling entities would end widely prevalent malpractice. The rules would boost the direct selling industry.”
“We are thankful to the Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution for bringing Direct Selling under a regulatory framework. With the notification of the draft Direct Selling Rules, a long pending dream of the Direct Selling industry is now getting fulfilled. The industry and IDSA have waited for a long time to see this day especially after the new Consumer Protection Act 2019 was notified in 2019,” he said.
With the notification of Direct Selling rules, India will join the select group of nations that have enacted similar legislation for governing the industry, he said.
