ED arrests Unitech promoters Chandra brothers

New Delhi, Dec 21:  The Enforcement Directorate arrested Unitech promoters Sanjay Chandra and Ajay Chandra under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), sources said on Tuesday.
The arrests were made after getting permission from a court to carry out their custodial interrogation.
In October, the Supreme Court transferred the Chandras from Central Jail Tihar here to Taloja Central Jail in Mumbai and Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai respectively.
The court took note of the status report filed by the Enforcement Directorate highlighting how the Tihar Jail had been misused by the Chandra brothers.
In October, Delhi Police Crime Branch searched 37 locations in Delhi, Haryana and Rajasthan of the Unitech owners.
The Tihar jail administration suspended 30 officials and terminated the service of two contractual employees for allegedly helping the promoters.
