Sir Gangaram hsptl denies allegations made in show-cause notice by Delhi’s AAP Govt
New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) Responding to the show-cause notice from the Delhi Government, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Monday denied the allegations against it leveled in the show-causes notice issued by the Delhi Government.
In a statement shared with the UNI, the hospital said the allegations are “not true”.
“The hospital authorities are replying to the issues raised and hope the misunderstanding, if any, should be resolved soon,” according to the statement released.
Earlier in the day, the Delhi Government had issued a show-cause notice to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital after it found an unsatisfactory response from the hospital sought after a complaint by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA alleging denial of admission to patients belonging to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of the society.
The Delhi Directorate General Of Health Services (DGHS) has invoked Clause 14.1 of the Schedule appended to Rule 14 of Delhi Nursing Homes Registration (Amendment) Rules, 2011 against the leading private hospital.
The complaint by Vishesh Ravi, AAP MLA from Karol Bagh constituency alleged gross violations of the EWS norms by the hospital like non-admission of EWS patients even when 95% out of 68 beds reserved for EWS patients were lying vacant.
The complainant also alleged the hospital for creating multiple and unnecessarily hurdles to the EWS category patients while renewing their card besides the treatment to eligible patients citing reasons such as COVID-19.
Ravi said that the notice emphasises that the hospital has shown dereliction of its responsibility towards EWS patients by not complying with DGHS guidelines on treating EWS patients.
He also noted that the notice should act as a deterrent for other hospitals that display discriminatory practices based on social class.
“Hospitals should not look down upon any EWS category patient and the issuance of show-cause notice to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital should act as a deterrent for the other private Hospitals who show discrimination in the treatment of EWS patients,” he added.
Ravi also cited an order by the Supreme Court regarding the treatment of EWS patients at private hospitals.
“Supreme Court vide its order had clearly stated that the private hospitals who got land at concessional rates are bound to give free treatment to the patients from the EWS category,” he said.
