Jammu, Jul 21 (UNI) After keeping the Kargil Vijay Diwas event a low key affair last year, the Indian Army is set to celebrate the day with a bang this year by organising mega events from July 23 onwards at Kargil in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
As a part of the celebrations, Northern Command Army Commander, Lieutenant General, Y K Joshi will lead a mega bike rally on Thursday to Kargil after a halt at Srinagar.
The bike rally named as ‘Dhruva Kargil Ride’, sponsored by JAWA Classics Motorcycle Company, will be starting from Udhampur tomorrow.
Lt Gen Joshi, whose battalion 13 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles, made four successful assaults on hilltops captured by Pakistani soldiers during the conflict in 1999 and played a vital role in the War.
Defence sources said that filmmaker Karan Johar and his crew from his upcoming venture ‘Shershah’ are also likely to join the celebrations.
An official teaser of the movie filmed on Kargil Hero, Captain Vikram Batra, who was awarded with the Param Vir Chakra for heroic act of bravery during the war, will also be released.
Meanwhile, sources said that President Ram Nath Kovind is also likely to participate in Kargil Vijay Diwas programme on July 26 and lay the wreath at Drass War Memorial Kargil.
The 22nd Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas also coincides with the 50th year of India’s glorious victory over Pakistan in the year 1971 war, which is being celebrated as Swarnim Vijay Varsh, they said adding that the victory flame (mashal) has already reached Ladakh.
On July 25, General Bipin Rawat, Chief of Defence Staff will join the celebrations, sources revealed.
