Anup Chandra Pandey takes over as new Election Commissioner

New Delhi, Jun 9 (UNI) Former Uttar Pradesh chief secretary Anup Chandra Pandey on Wednesday assumed charge as the new Election Commissioner.
Mr Pandey joins the Election Commission (EC) as second Election Commissioner in a three-member body headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra and Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, the Election Commission said in a statement here.
Born on February 15, 1959, Mr Pandey is a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1984 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. During the span of about 37 years of service, Mr Pandey has worked in various Ministries and Departments at the Centre and his state cadre of Uttar Pradesh.
Mr Pandey superannuated as the Uttar Pradesh chief secretary in August 2019.
Prior to joining the Election Commission, Mr Pandey served as a member of the National Green Tribunal Oversight Committee, Uttar Pradesh.
