Patna, Jun 1 (UNI) Bihar Government on Tuesday announced that it has decided not to extend the terms of panchayat representatives ending on June 15 and advisory committees would be constituted at various levels across the state to perform the jobs presently being done by them.
A decision to this effect was taken in state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Panchayati Raj Minister Samrat Chaudhary, told media persons in this connection, that terms of panchayat representatives would end on June 15 after their tenures of five years. The state government had decided to constitute committees at various levels across the state to do the works which were presently being done Panchayat representatives, he added.
Mr Chaudhary said that Panchayat elections could not be held due to corona pandemic and a way out had been opted for carrying out works which were presently being done by Panchayat representatives. An ordinance would be issued to this effect after consent of the Governor, he informed.
Former Bihar Chief Minister and president of Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) has welcomed the decision of the government. It was pleasure for him to note that government had evolved a solution for carrying out works after June 15, he remarked. He had earlier demanded for extension of Panchayat representatives.
The state cabinet in its meeting also approved a proposal to provide Rs 656 Crores to Panchayats. A decision to this this effect was taken in the light of recommendation made by Finance Commission.
In another decision, cabinet approved web policy of the state government for advertisements. Besides, print and electronic media, now web media would also get government advertisements as per rules framed in this connection.
