Court retains Tytler order in 1984 anti-Sikh riots
New Delhi: A Delhi court has deferred its judgment on whether to charge Congress leader Jagdish Tytler in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, which killed three.
After hearing arguments from the prosecution and defense, CBI special judge Rakesh Siyal reserved the order. August 2, 2024 is the court’s decision date.
Last year, the court heard the CBI’s charge sheet submitted on May 20, 2023, under 148 IPC (rioting armed with deadly weapon), 153 A (promoting hatred between groups), and IPC 188 (disobeying a public servant’s order).
Tytler was charged with inciting a crowd to attack Sikhs after exiting a white ambassador car outside Gurudwara Pul Bangash on November 1, 1984. Three people died when Tytler exclaimed, “Kill the Sikhs, they have killed our mother,” according to a witness.
