IFFI will award best OTT web series.

I&B Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said the award will be granted yearly starting this year to an original web series on an OTT platform, shot and available in an Indian language.

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) will honour the finest OTT web series during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa from November 20 to 28.

I&B Minister Anurag Singh Thakur unveiled the new award category on Tuesday. He said the prize will be granted annually starting this year to an original web series on an OTT platform, shot and available in an Indian language.

“Delighted to announce the BEST WEB SERIES AWARD @IFFIGoa for an exceptional web series for its artistic merit, storytelling excellence, technical prowess, and overall impact. “India is filled with exceptional talent; I encourage you to tell the story of a rising and aspirational New India – ready to lead the world, with a billion dreams and a billion untold stories,” Thakur tweeted.

The minister said the prize encourages content in Indian languages, recognises extraordinary talent, and promotes OTT industry growth and innovation.

On Tuesday, Thakur met with top OTT platforms to address content regulation, user experience, and disabled accessibility.

“OTT platforms have changed how we consume content, fostered new talent, and promoted regional content globally. After the meeting, Thakur tweeted, “OTT players have a responsibility to ensure that their platform does not propagate vulgarity and abuse camouflaged as ‘creative expression’.”

The minister added that OTTs must reflect India’s collective conscience and offer a healthy viewing experience for all ages because India is varied.

He stated that OTT platforms must be “sensitive to our cultural diversity”.

Thakur advised OTT players to ensure “their platform does not propagate vulgarity and abuse camouflaged as ‘creative expression’.”

At the 54th IFFI, the National Film Development Corporation, the ministry’s main agency, is accepting entries for Indian feature and non-feature films to screen in the Indian Panorama section.
