1796 – The first U.S. patent for a pill of any kind was issued to Samuel Lee.

1808 – 1st practical typewriter finished by Italian Pellegrini Turri.

1878 – Louis Pasteur lectured at th Pasteure French Academy of Science in support of his germ theory of disease, in which he held that many diseases were caused by tiny organisms. 1955 – Imperial Bank of India nationalised.

2014 – The World Bank reports that India is now the third-largest economy behind the U.S. and China on the basis of purchasing power parity; India replaces Japan, though Japan remains in third place when GDPs are compared on an exchange-rated basis.


2018 – World’s oldest known spider, a female trapdoor, dies after being killed by a wasp sting in Western Australia, aged 43.

2022 – Jacky Hunt-Broersma sets world record for running 104 consecutive maPhalkerathons in 104 days, after surviving cancer and with a prosthetic leg.


1870 – Dadasaheb Phalke alias Dhundiraj Gobind Phalke. He is remembered as the ‘Father of Indian Cinema’. He produced India’s first feature Film, ‘Raja Harishchandra’ and founded Phalke & Co. at Bombay. He was a director, producer, writer, editor & laboratorian, portrait photographer and also a scene-painter.

1896 – Maa Anandamayee, Godly yogini and mystic Bengali Saint. Was reverred as Maa Durga by her devotees.

1977 – Nine Congress-ruled states placed under President’s rule. Janata Party formed.

1991 – BJP election manifesto promises Presidential form of government.

1993 – An astronaut received a test infusion while in orbit on the space shuttle Columbia. German physicist Hans Schlegel had the saline solution at body temperature pumped into him through a needle. The experiment provided a means to address dehydration and other common space problems such as puffy face and skinny legs.

1960 – The oldest U.S. bat was identified as 24 years old, having been banded on 22 Jun 1937 in Massachusetts. The female little brown bat (Myotis lucifugus), the most abundant bat in the U.S., was found in a cave on Mount Aeolis, Vermont.
