US Assit. Secy. of State Donald Lu is visiting Bangladesh today

Dhaka: Bangladesh’s democracy and human rights have set a precedent in the world, said Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen
He said, “At the moment Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has the ability to be a powerful head of state in the world. That is why leaders of the developed countries of the world are not able to survive in the race with her. That is why, leaders of those countries want to visit Bangladesh again and again”.
He was replying to queries from journalists regarding US Assistant Secretary of State (Asia Region) Donald Lu’s visit to Bangladesh, and what kind of discussion on democracy and human rights.
He said, ‘There is nothing to teach Bangladesh in these matters (democracy and human rights). Because it is our brain. Democracy and human rights are in our hearts, everywhere. No one needs to recommend democracy and justice. But if anyone has any suggestions, we will listen to them. I will check whether it is good for our country or not. If it is good, I will accept it.
Referring to the good friendship between Bangladesh and the United States, the foreign minister said, “America is our friend country.” Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu is visiting here. We will discuss democracy and human rights as well as other issues with him. If they give any constructive suggestion, we will accept it. We believe in a balanced foreign policy.
Abdul Momen also said that Bangladesh does not have much objection to join the US-led Indo-Pacific Alliance.
He said, ‘Bangladesh has no objection to join this alliance. We are studying it. If joining the Indo-Pacific Economic Forum will benefit us, then we will join.
He remarked while talking to reporters after attending a program at Bangla Academy auditorium in the capital on Friday.
Earlier, the foreign minister unveiled the cover of a book written by Rajshahi University Professor Atful High Shibli.
It may be mentioned that Donald Lu is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh tomorrow (Saturday) after ending his visit to India. (UNI)
