G20 should promote Gandhian approach in conflict resolution: Moily

Pune: Former Union Law Minister Dr. M Veerappa Moily on Friday asserted that “The non-alignment movement (NAM) concept must be revived and India should promote Gandhian approach of conflict resolution during the G20 presidency.”
Dr. Moily was speaking as Chief Guest during the inauguration function of 2nd International Symposium on Law and Peace (ISLP) organized by MIT World Peace University in association with Pune District Bar Association in Pune. Former Judge of Supreme Court Justice Gyan Sudha Misra; former Chief Justice of Patna High Court Justice L Narsimha Reddy, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum Maharashtra President Justice Ashok Bhangale; All India Bar Council President Adv. Aadish Agarwala, Senior Advocate Savitri Pandey, P. K. Malhotra, Ulka Jain, Organizing Chair and Convener ISLP Lalit Bhasin, Pune Bar Association President Pandurang Thorve were present on the occasion.
Founder President MIT WPU and UNESCO Chair Holder Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad presided over the function along with MIT WPU Executive President Rahul V. Karad.
Dr. Moily said, “There is a mutual relationship between development and democracy and peace and security. In the absence of peace and security, democracy cannot function, development cannot happen. We need to prevent abuse of democratic institutions to safeguard democracy.”
Gyan Sudha Mishra said, “Law is a tool to ensure peace and order in society. We must see to how law can be enforced without disrupting peace. The leadership also has to be full of wisdom to ensure and maintain this equilibrium. Apart from domestic laws, we must also see how international law can be made effective. Institutions like International Court of Justice must be given more powers and regional interests of any country should not prevail in any situation.”
Reddy said, “Our country can flourish only if peace prevails. It is only through law that enduring peace can be ensured. There is heavy burden on the rulers or government to make people understand what is law.”
Vishwanath D Karad said, “Truth is one and only one and the law of nature, spirituality, does not change. We should not neglect our soul and mind while taking care of our body and brain. We must build a peace-loving holistic society and for that we must mold our personality.”
Rahul V Karad said, “Law and peace are connected deeply. There are many challenges in a democratic setup and we as students and society should understand them and try to solve them. Laws and regulations are important and we play a crucial role in its enforcement. Our mission is to promote peace in the world and for that we must have an education system which enables us to evolve in life.”
MIT WPU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr R M Chitnis and Dean of School of Law Prof Dr Saurabh Chaturvedi welcomed the dignitaries. (UNI)
