LG Mathur: Efforts to make Ladakh best in country with health infra, medical facilities

Jammu: Emphasizing the need to provide the best possible health facilities to the people of Ladakh, Lieutenant Governor R K Mathur on Thursday said that efforts are being made in developing medical infrastructure, strengthening the manpower.
“Facilities being provided at the New District Hospital would not have been possible at the previous District Hospital,” LG Mathur stated speaking after inaugurating the 300-bedded New District Hospital Complex at Lower Kurbathang in Kargil.
He said that the MRI machine would be sanctioned for the New District Hospital at Kargil and further infrastructure expansion works would be made in the future so that the public could avail themselves of their benefits.
Terming medical, paramedical and other staff as ‘the soul of the health sector’, LG Mathur appreciated their work during the Covid-19 pandemic and stated that efforts are being made to ensure that all the medical staff quarters and offices are provided with heating facilities.
He also stated that efforts would be made to provide staff quarters for all the medical staff in the outlying areas.
He further stated that health and education are the fundamental sectors that indicate the progress of a society.
“Efforts are being made by the UT Administration and both the Hill Councils in developing medical infrastructure, strengthening the manpower and ensuring the supply of various medical items to enable Ladakh to become a place with a very good health system comparable to the best in the country,” he added.
LG Mathur congratulated the people of Kargil for one of its kind state-of-the-art district hospitals in Kargil.
He appreciated the efforts of the Hill Council Kargil along with the officials of the Administration for making the construction of the District Hospital with all facilities possible in a short time.
Chairman, LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan, thanked the Administration for setting up the centrally-heated New District Hospital in Kargil on behalf of the people.
He informed that the construction of the New District Hospital was completed in a short span of time despite the Covid-19 pandemic. He stated that the New District Hospital has been constructed keeping the extreme climatic conditions of Ladakh in mind. Chairman, LAHDC Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan requested for MRI facility and the expansion of the hospital along with the coverage of expenses of taxi fare of patients who are referred to Srinagar or Jammu in the health scheme.
Principal Secretary Dr Pawan Kotwal informed about initiatives being taken to provide the best possible health facilities along with the detection of diseases affecting the people of Ladakh at all the 166 Health and Wellness Centres in Ladakh along with providing e-Sanjeevani tele-consultation services to people in remote areas of Ladakh.
