Heavy downpour predicted in UP, North India

Lucknow: Even as the rain continues to play havoc across Uttar Pradesh with several districts facing problems of floods and waterlogging, the Meteorological Department has predicted more rains in several parts of the state in the next three days.
The untimely rain has caused huge losses to the paddy farmers in the state as the entire crop has been damaged after getting submerged in water.
According to the impact-based report issued by the Met department on Monday, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur in Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti and Kushinagar in the next 24 hours.
Similar weather conditions are likely to prevail in Maharajganj, Siddharth Nagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shrawasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Unnao, Lucknow, Barabanki, Rae Bareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Kasganj, Etah, Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Auraiya, Bijnor, Amroha, Moradabad, Rampur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Shahjahanpur, Sambhal, Badaun, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi, Lalitpur and adjoining areas
It has warned of heavy to very heavy rain in Gonda, Balrampur, Shrawasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri, Barabanki and adjoining areas.
For Tuesday and Wednesday the department has predicted thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur in Pratapgarh, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Azamgarh, Mau, Ballia, Deoria, Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Basti, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Siddharth Nagar, Gonda, Balrampur, Shrawasti and Bahraich.

Heavy rain has been predicted in Banda, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Shrawasti, Bahraich, Lakhimpur Kheri districts and adjoining areas.
Meanwhile, heavy rain since Sunday night resulted in waterlogging in several parts of the state capital Lucknow. The people were faced to wade through knee high water at some places as the city traffic was almost thrown out of gear.
Heavy rains in the last 24 hours also resulted in power cuts and though the sky turned clear for some time in the afternoon it became cloudy by the evening indicating more rainfall.
Report from Bahraich said that three people drowned as flood water has inundated 130 villages in the district. Junior Engineer of Saryu Drainage Division First VB Pal said that Ghaghara river was flowing 0.76 centimeter above danger mark at Elgin Bridge.
District Magistrate Dr Dinesh Chandra said that 16 people have been rescued and the rescue and relief work is being carried out on a large scale. He said that relief packets along with cooked food are being provided to the people affected by floods.
Report from Gonda said that 107 villages have been hit due to overflow in Ghaghara, Saryu, Quano and other small rivers in the district. As per an estimate nearly 2,500-hectare agricultural land is completely submerged underwater. District Calamity Officer Rajesh Kumar said that the water level of Ghaghara and Saryu is continuously rising. (UNI)
