Sensex drops 509.24 points, makes free fall 6th day in a row

Rupee-Dollar rate inches towards 82 Re a Greenbuck

Mumbai: The equity market remained under pressure for the sixth straight session on Wednesday as the the BSE Sensex tumbled 509.24 points to 56,598.28 as selling was seen in metal, bankex, power and utilities stocks.
The Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) fell 148.80 points at 16,858.60.
The Sensex opened at 56,710.13 and fell by 397 points. During the day it tanked 622 points at 56,485.67, the day’s low, before closing at 56,598.28, sliding 509.24 points from its previous close.
The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 17,037.60 and 16,820.40.
In scrips, ITC declined by 2.94 per cent to Rs 325 followed by Axis Bank by 2.84 per cent to Rs 716.35, Reliance Industries by 2.64 per cent to Rs 2,332.10, Tata Steel by 2.41 per cent to Rs 95.25 and HDFC by 2.28 per cent to Rs 2,238.
The Mid Cap fell by 0.47 per cent and the Small Cap by 0.43 per cent.
In 30 scrips, 11 advanced while 19 declined.
