Jammu: Mega show for Maharaja Hari Singh birth anniversary today

 Jammu: While the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a public holiday on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh—the last Dogra King—falling on September 23, the Jammu region is in an upbeat mood to celebrate the occasion with great fanfare.
The Jammu and Kashmir Government on September 19 conceded the demand of people of Jammu particularly of Yuva Rajput Sabha that spearheaded the agitation to press the administration for the same and announced a holiday on September 23 to commemorate the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh.
However, celebrations marked on Thursday and mega functions are also planned for Friday across Jammu and Kashmir to commemorate the first holiday as a tribute to the Maharaja Hari Singh.
On Thursday evening, the Maharaja Hari Singh Ji Foundation also released a song depicting the life of Maharaja besides traditions and culture of the Dogra community at a well-organized function in the Lawns of Hari Niwas.
Speaking to the media at the sidelines of the function, Kunwarani Ritu Singh, daughter-in-law of the Royal Family, said, “it is a happy moment for one and all and every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir is celebrating it with enthusiasm.”
Lauding Advocate, Rashid from Kishtwar, who created the video and the song, Ritu Singh, who is also chairperson, FICCI FLO’s J&K and Ladakh chapter, said, “the song has been released as a tribute to Maharaja on the eve of his birth anniversary.”
“Maharaja has done a lot for every section and community and we are carrying forward his legacy of educating people, through social work and empowerment after the Foundation was constituted in 2001.”
She said that the Foundation is always on its toes to promote the local talent and to support the people of Jammu.
Ritu Singh also revealed that tomorrow, many functions have been scheduled to mark the historic day.
However, M K Ajatshatru Singh, (grandson of Maharaja Hari Singh), also felicitated the Yuva Rajput Sabha for spearheading the movement that made this day to happen.
Meanwhile, BJP J&K President, Ravinder Raina, former Dy. CM Kavinder Gupta and other prominent personalities of Jammu also attended the event.
Earlier in the day, former MLC Vikramaditya Singh along with Ajatshatru Singh and his son, Ranvijay Singh felicitated Rajan Singh Happy, President Yuva Rajput Sabha for playing key role in sanction of a holiday on September 23, every year, the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh.
He was honored by presenting a portrait of the Maharaja during a glittering function organized in connection with the 127th Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh here today at Amar Mahal.
Vikramaditya termed it as a youth movement in Jammu as the Sabha members mobilized people over the issue by visiting village after village and imparting awareness about the significance of holiday of Maharaja Hari Singh and mounted pressure on the government to cede to the demand of the entire Union Territory.
Moreover, celebrations broke out at various places on Thursday evening as people danced to the tunes of drumbeats and distributed sweets.

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor had said Maharaja Hari Singh was a great educationist, progressive thinker, social reformer and a towering man of ideas and ideals.
“The public holiday will be a fitting tribute to Maharaja Hari Singh Ji’s rich legacy,” he observed.
Notably, the announcement was made following Sinha’s meeting with a delegation comprising prominent political leaders, members of Yuva Rajput Sabha, civil society members, including head of Jammu and Kashmir Transport Union at the Raj Bhavan.
Karan Singh, son of Maharaja Hari Singh, had also earlier endorsed the demand of the locals to declare September 23 a public holiday.
