Glittering closing to CWG 2022 at Bermingham, some glitches and glimpses

Games opened on July 28 and had over 4500 participants from 72 member countries of 'Commonwealth', a British legacy term

Bermingham: The Commonwealth Games 2022 came to an end Monday evening after a glittering closing ceremony at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. The Games flag was lowered and handed over Victoria, Australia which hosts the next edition of the CWG in 2026.

The closing ceremony kicked off with a performance from Solihull band Ocean Colour Scene. This was followed by a musical performance from the Birmingham-born band Dexys Midnight Runners. One of the biggest bands of all time, UB40 added more to the event, while other musicians and bands from the Midlands region entertained the crowd with their performance.

This year, India finished at No. 4 with 61 medals, 22 Gold, 16 Silver and 23 Bronze respectively, making it to 4th spot in the medal tally table. Australia bagged maximum medals (178) followed by England (176) and Canada (92).
Prince Edward “proclaimed Birmingham 2022 closed” and made a formal invitation to the Australian state of Victoria for the 2026 Commonwealth Games to host the next event.

PV Sindhu raised the Indian flag high standing on top of the podium at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 on Monday (August 8). The 27-year-old won gold for India against Canada’s Michelle Li in the final of the Women’s Singles category in Birmingham.
