Taliban claim to have busted IS cell in Kabul province
Kabul: The Taliban militia said on Wednesday that they have intercepted an Islamic State cell in Kabul Province and captured three senior foreign members of the organization.
The Islamist group said that two IS members were killed during the operation. The Taliban also seized weapons, in particular two Kalashnikovs and a pistol.
Since capturing power in the country in August 2021, the Taliban has been battling a local chapter of the IS, which is believed to be behind the majority of recent terrorist attacks and bomb explosions in Afghanistan. According to the Taliban, the IS presence in the country is small and the movement has been working to eradicate the group. (UNI/SPUTNIK)
