16 Democrats arrested in Washington for abortion rights protests

Washington: At least 16 Democrat lawmakers were arrested at a pro-abortion rights demonstration near the US Supreme Court on Tuesday, US Capitol Police said in a statement.

“We made a total of 34 arrests for Crowding, Obstructing or Incommoding,” police said with respect to the protest near the Supreme Court. “That arrest number includes 16 Members of Congress.”
Axios reported that among the lawmakers arrested are Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ilhan Omar.
On June 24, the US Supreme Court overturned its Roe v. Wade decision, allowing states to decide whether to allow or to regulate abortions.
At the end of last month, a CBS/YouGov poll revealed that 41% of Americans approve of the Supreme Court overturning the decision, while 59% disapprove of it. Republicans showed a lot more support for the Supreme Court’s decision, with 78% expressing approval vs. 17% of Democrats who said they approved. (UNI/SPUTNIK)
