Biden, Scholz discuss Ukraine, China ahead of G7 Summit
Berlin: US President Joe Biden and Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz met on Sunday in Bavaria ahead of the G7 Leaders’ Summit and discussed Ukraine, China among others.
The White House in a statement said, “Biden expressed appreciation for the Chancellor’s leadership of the G7, and the importance of coordinating responses to Russia’s further invasion of Ukraine, climate, and economic and democratic resilience.”
They underlined their commitment to ‘Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as their continued provision of military, economic, humanitarian, and diplomatic support to help Ukraine defend its democracy against Russian aggression.”
They also discussed ‘efforts to alleviate the impacts of Russia’s war in Ukraine on global food and energy security.”
Biden also welcomed Germany’s commitment to strengthen defence spending and meet its NATO commitments, which will strengthen the Alliance’s long-term deterrence and defence posture.
The both leaders also talked on the ‘challenges posed’ by China. (UNI)
