US approves 30,000 refugees’ entry into country, out of 50,000

Over 75 lakh Ukrainians have left their country since start of Russian invasion on Feb. 24

Washington: The US government received over 50,000 applications from Ukrainian refugees who want to enter the United States, and approved about 30,000 of them, Assistant Secretary for Population, Refugees, and Migration Julieta Valls Noyes said on Wednesday.
“To date, I believe we have over 50,000 applicants for sponsorship, over 30,000 Ukrainians have been approved for travel, and over 10,000 have already arrived.” Noyes told reporters.
The Biden administration expressed a commitment to accept up to 100,000 Ukrainians, she reminded.
Noyes pointed out the temporary character of this program, because refugees want to return home. In the meantime, Washington promised to expedite the process of their cases, she added. (UNI/Sputnik)
