Kerala gold smuggling: Swapna seeks audience with PM

Thiruvananthapuram: Swapna Suresh, an accused in the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case, on Tuesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking permission to meet him and discuss the scandal.
In her letter, Suresh, who also sought a central agency probe into the smuggling case, said she was made a scapegoat by those involved in the case. She claimed that she only did what her bosses asked her to do.
Alleging that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his family members were involved in the case, she said only a CBI probe could bring the truth out.
Following her disclosure about the Chief Minister in the 164 statements, she and her advocate, the officials of HRDS where she is working, are being harassed and tortured, Swapna said.
Though the other culprits in the case are leading a normal life, she is being harassed and has spent 16 months in jail, she added.
Accusing Customs and the NIA of diverting the case, she said senior IAS official M Sivasankar, former principal secretary of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was responsible for the smuggling. However, the IAS official who was in jail for 3 months has been taken back into the Government service.
Pointing out the role of the UAE Consulate in the scandal and referring to old cases like Bofors and 2G Spectrum, she said the probe by the CBI is necessary to find the truth. (UNI)
