Social Media Cell set up at Delhi Police HQ

New Delhi: Delhi Police on Monday set up a Social Media Cell in-house state-of-the-art studio to counter fake news, holding Podcast, Twitter Live sessions, panel discussions and press briefings.
Inaugurating the Media Cell, Delhi Commissioner of Police Rakesh Asthana underlined the importance of communication in today’s well-networked society.
He said it was equally important to fight fake news, as to propagate actual facts in the public domain. Social Media was the best medium to spread awareness and for debunking fake news in the shortest time, he added.
The Social Media Cell of Delhi Police is equipped with in-house state-of-the-art studio Face-2-Face at Police Headquarters here.
Speaking on the occasion, Asthana said educational and awareness videos produced by SMC can be shared by EOW, SPUWAC and other verticals of Delhi Police.
He said the Social Media Cell has been set up for quick dissemination of information in case of exigencies like violence, fire incident, building collapse, bomb threat or other such emergent situation.
On several occasions, situations related to law & order were mischievously escalated on social media with certain false narratives to disturb peace and harmony. It will counter such fake news, he added.
Asthana said the city’s traffic can also be regulated through regular updates with video advisories, especially on mega-events like Republic Day, Independence Day, Summits and Conferences.
The much-advanced studio will be used for making internal productions/content to be used for training and welfare purposes, besides catering to the general public through regular connect. (UNI)
