Property worth lakhs destroyed in fire

Kangra: Property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed in a devastating fire that broke out at a shop in Hospital Gali of the main market of this temple town. However, there was no loss of life in the incident. A local shopkeeper noticed smoke coming out of the shop on the first floor, which was housing a cloth merchant shop and raised an alarm. Local shopkeepers and youth informed the fire brigade, but by that time, the flames had engulfed the shop. Rishi Mahajan, owner of the shop, told UNI that when they opened the shop in morning and switched on the main switch, a fire broke out due to a short circuit. He said before they could control the blaze, it charred the entire shop and reduced the property worth lakhs into ashes. Ashok Rana, Fire Officer of Kangra fire station said that the blaze had broken out on the first floor of the building and two fire tenders were pressed into the service to control the flames. He said the cause of the fire could not be established immediately, however, it was suspected to be due to a short circuit, as claimed by the shop owner. (UNI)
