Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 24 (UNI) The Principal Sub Court-I here on Monday directed former chief minister and CPI(M) veteran VS Achuthanandan to pay Rs 10.10 lakhs as compensation to former chief minister and senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy in a defamation case against him. In an interview given to a news channel in August 2013, VS Achuthanandan alleged that Oommen Chandy formed a company
to collect bribes in connection with the controversial solar scam case. In 2014, Oommen Chandy filed a defamation case against Achuthanandan. Pronouncing the verdict, Principal Sub-Judge Shibu Daniel also directed Achuthanandan to pay an interest of six percent with retrospective effect from 2014. Reacting to the court order, senior Congress leader and former opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala said “The court verdict against the corruption allegations made by CPM leader VS Achuthanandan against former CM @Oommen_Chandy once again proves that the UDF Govt was corruption free and also the honesty of Shri Oommen Chandy. Baseless allegations by CPM has been rejected outright.
