Will assist any Indians in distress in Kazakhstan

New Delhi, Jan 6 (UNI) A violence continues to spiral in Kazakhstan, India said on Thursday that it is monitoring the situation there from the perspective of the safety and welfare of Indian nationals there, and would assist any Indians in distress.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, asked at a briefing if India was planning to repatriate its nationals from Kazakhstan in view of the violence, said that the Indian embassy in capital Nur-Sultan is monitoring the situation.
“Our embassy is in Kazakhstan is closely monitoring the ongoing developments there, particularly from the perspective of the safety and welfare of the Indian nationals in that country.

“We will of course assist any Indians in distress,” he said, adding that “for the moment we are not aware of any such incident or situation.”
Several people were reported killed in Kazakhstan as protesters clashed with security forces in the Central Asian country.
Thousands have reportedly been arrested in Almaty and hundreds were injured, in the protests that were triggered by rising fuel prices last weekend.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has sacked the country’s government and declared a nationwide two-week state of emergency.
He also invited troops from a Russian-headed military alliance of former Soviet states into Kazakhstan in a bid to restore order.
