Aurangabad admin clears Rs 1L ex-gratia for deceased farmers

Aurangabad (Maharashtra), Dec 29: A total of 21 cases of famers’ suicides here on Wednesday were declared eligible for Rs one lakh compensation, stated Upper District Collector Dr Anant Gavane.
A review meeting was held to decide on the eligibility of 25 such cases.
The formal gathering included Resident Deputy Collector Shashikant Hadgal, police department representatives and other concerned officials.
Speaking in the meeting, Dr Gavane asserted, “The life of a farmer is more precious than the financial assistance of one lakh rupees from the government.”
“Also, people’s representatives and administration should make efforts to stop suicides due to land infertility and depression caused by indebtedness,” he underlined.
Out of the remaining four cases, two were pending for scrutiny, one was found ineligible while another cases was submitted for re-investigation.
