Sujanpur Tira to be Paragliding destination

Hamirpur (HP), Nov 27(UNI) Sujanpur Tira, the historic town of Himachal Pradesh is now set to emerge as a Para Gliding destination. The HP government has issued a notification giving permission for enjoying thrilling aero sports in the town.

Based on the recommendations of the Technical Committee of Aero Sports, the state government has notified Sujanpur as a paragliding site.
Now, tourists and common people will be able to enjoy thrilling aero sports like paragliding in the district’s historical city Sujanpur said, Assistant District Tourism Development Officer Ravi Dhiman.

He said that as per this notification issued under Himachal Pradesh Aero Sports Rules-2004, more than 13 hectares of land of Khasra No. 421 has been notified as take off-site for take off from Tihra near Sujanpur.

Similarly, about 299 hectares of land has been made a landing site on Khasra No. 3678 and 3555 in Chaugan, the historic ground of Sujanpur, he further added.

Presently, the aero sports are held in the Bir-Billing area of the Kangra district and Bandla area of the Bilaspur district of the state where hundreds of people take part in the flying activities.
It’s worth mentioning here that a crew of paragliders had successfully carried out a trial run at Sujanpur in the month of June this year.
The crew was sent by Union Sports-cum-Youth welfare Minister, Anurag Thakur who is also the local Member of Parliament.
Local people are happy with the declaration of their area as a tourist place where aero sports activities will be held on a large scale.
Ramesh Chand of Sujanpur said that it would boost economic activities in the area and moreover, would be helpful for providing more job avenues to the local youth.
It’s worth mentioning here that Sujanpur Tira is the former sub-capital of great Katoch rulers of Kangra hills and is also known for its scenic beauty and Kangra paintings.
